The Information Technology (IT) Committee
The IT Committee was established to improve communications, coordination and collaboration with GIS Management & Technical Committees and to support regional, cross-agency technological initiatives pertaining to GIS.
Goals:
- Establish GIS integration & interoperability with existing IT systems & databases
- Provide institutional IT support for Consortium GIS initiatives
- Manage IT infrastructure: periodic replacement, upgrades of hardware/software
- Assist in acquisition of field equipment: handheld data loggers, laptops, GPS, rangefinder etc. identified by GIS users
- Establish IT network connectivity between Consortium members
- Assign user access privileges consistent with business operation needs
- Develop and maintain field wireless/web/IT network access capabilities
Collaboration with Technical Committee:
- Collaborate with GIS technical committee to utilize and identify "Commercial Off the Shelf Applications" (COTS) whenever possible
- Collaborate with GIS technical committee to develop common "Service Oriented Architecture" (SOA) web services: geo-coding/routing/AVL/publicservice requests (e.g. pot-hole)/mass mailings etc.
- Collaborate with GIS technical committee to establish criteria for enterprise-wide application development & prioritization protocol
