The initial data came from Spring 1995 Aerial Photography of McLean County. Aero-Metric
Inc. of Sheboygan, Wisconsin produced digital data from that photography. Each government agency is responsible for additions and updates within their
jurisdiction.
Recent color orthophotography was acquired in April 2001 by GRW Aerial Surveys of Lexington, Kentucky.
The MCGIS uses ArcGIS as its core GIS application. Data sets are ARC/INFO coverages. Data is also available in two CADD (Computer Aided Design Drafting)
formats: Microstation .DGN files, and AutoCAD .DWG drawing files.

Commission. Resale of the data is prohibited. Agencies which are voting members of the
McLean County GIS may produce these products for their own use as needed. All product
sales are to be done through the McLean County Regional Planning Commission.
Reference Systems and Accuracy
The McLean County data is based on the Illinois State Plane East Zone Metric Coordinate
System. Vertical Control is based on National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD 29).
Horizontal Control is based on the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83). The positional accuracy of the data from the Spring 1995 photography for the urban area
is 0.5 meters and 1.0 meters for the remainder of the county. It is the goal of the MCGIS
Committee to equal or exceed this level of accuracy for new data and updates. It is the responsibility of the user to check the metadata for the accuracy of any particular spatial data layer. Download the ArcInfo Projection File HERE.
